Update on Stands and University Services

Essential new information for Exhibitors

We now have the prices for University stock furniture, Broadband connection and telephone connection.

1. For one table 1.5m x .75m with two chairs - GBP 30.00 a set (make sure you bring a suitable covering for the table).

2. For Broadband connection for the duration - GBP 50.00 (the companies who paid for the service in Edinburgh will not need to pay at York) - Last minute changes to services have taken us by surprise in the past.

3. Additional electrical requirements lighting and power sockets and any special requirements will cost GBP 50.00 per item including power used.

4. It will be necessary to have electrical items PAT tested, spot checks may be made....you never know!

5. Anyone requiring a telephone connection with handset will be charged GBP 60.00 plus calls.
   (mobile reception is reasonable in the hall).

6. Crates and cartons can be stored in a separate room near the Scientific Poster sites. This will become clear on the day!

7. Anyone planning a live demonstration of any kind should submit full details to the organisers who will apply to Health and Safety for clearance.

8. If you have specialist Stand Construction Teams please provide details to the organisers to enable unhindered access to the Hall. Please ensure that all stands are demolished and equipment removed by 5.30 on the Knock-down Day.

9. Smokers can let themselves out to the Lakeside and still be in easy reach of the hall should they be required. There is a strict 'No Smoking' policy on campus and in the accommodation......that includes the toilets!!!

Tips for Exhibitors......continued

There are simple ways to hold the attention of a visitor: The basic act of 'feeding' is the most obvious, avoid the 'gob-stopper', that could defeat the object. A mint of some kind will have the tendency to hold the visitor at least long enough for you to make an impression.

No matter how many companies offer give-away pens, regardless of their quality, as long as they write they are never thrown away and one day maybe the phone number could save them needing to scramble through the Yellow Pages.

Don't rely on people picking up literature from your stand. Make it available in the Press Office and other places around the hall. Make sure your business card is attached and you may just find yourself being contacted after the event.

If you have a new product or service, don't worry if you don't have fancy literature to hand out, a printed summary is just as effective and lighter to carry for the over-burdened delegate. It is also a good idea to get your message across by having your information entered into the delegates packs before the event kicks off.

First impressions only happen once, so leave the drinking, onions and garlic until the evening.
A clear head and sweet breath can go a long way towards making a successful sale.
